Graphic Design: Exploring Your Potential

Graphic design is about potential. It is creating something out of nothing. A blank page full of possibilities that when you put different elements to it, it comes alive. It becomes something. It is only limited by the possibilities that you can determine in your mind. The world is full of such creative minds; they craft out things that makes you wonder, makes you want to buy things, and makes you want to possess the unique things that they create. There is no easy way to create things, creation just happens, beauty just happens and with graphic design regardless if it is something specific that a client wants or something born out of the artists boredom, a design is born. It just happens to exist. Fostering a safe community means ensuring that graphic designers and their work should be born not only out of the creative mind but through responsibility and respect for everything that exist on the earth, not only people, but nature as well as property.

The mind is a great repository of things, a vault where all of our experiences and knowledge can be found; sometimes an artist’s potential at designing thrives on his ability to adapt present and past designs to form a new and diversified look and feel. This is the adaptive artist, to take something that already exists and see the potential for improvement, to see that it can be something else despite its own definition. For example a simple bottle printed on a label can be something used for milk once but if it is redesigned , adding a few simple elements like words and changing the milk bottle itself you can create something that can be adapted to a beer commercial or a commercial for a new soda. And the possibilities are endless to a mind who is not limited to just what he sees.

There are also those who have never touched a paint brush, never played on a computer layout or ever been to a city who can craft such majestic designs, creating things with their hands, a hand painted scroll, a wood carving in the shape of animals or man, the graffiti artist who paints on derelict buildings or under bridges. Graphic design is born out of this potential too, the first inspirations from artists who create merely for themselves and out of ideas that no man has ever seen. You can say that it is potential that breeds more potential. It is a race some time to come up with something new and fresh but with inspiration swirling all around there will never be a shortage of potential for years to come.
